Home > Homeopathic Medicine for Delayed Puberty

Puberty in girls is the transition period from childhood to adulthood, and it is normally characterized by the gradual development of secondary sexual characters.

At the stage of puberty, a girl child has grown so to a level where she is capable of bearing children. But sometimes, it can be delayed and homeopathic medicines are effective as a complementary treatment.

At the adolescent stage (between age 10 and 19 years), a girl child gets into puberty and begins to notice adult sexual maturation. This period is characterized by physical, biological, and psychological developments that make sexual reproduction possible.

Hormones are mainly involved in this transition stage, and you begin to notice bodily changes, sexual development, and altered behavioral and emotional changes.

Puberty is often characterized by sequential changes in the order: thelarche – adrenarche – peak growth spurt – menarche – ovulation.

Some common signs of puberty in girls include:

  • Growth spurt
  • Growth of pubic and other body hair
  • The onset of menstruation (at the advanced stage of puberty)
  • Breast development
  • Acne

Apart from the endocrinal influences, other factors like nutrition, genetics, and environment also play a vital role during this transition period.

What Is Delayed Puberty?

Delayed Puberty is one of the common disorders of puberty asides from menstrual abnormalities, precocious puberty, and others. It is simply defined when the sexual characters are not visible by the age of 14, and at age 16, menarche is not yet established.

Delayed puberty can even last up to 18 years, sometimes, 20 or 25 years. And it can be hard to trace whether it is pathological or physiological.

The etiology of delayed puberty include:

  • Ovarian causes- Swyer syndrome, Turner’s syndrome, testicular feminizing syndrome, resistant ovary, autoimmune disease, high FSH.
  • Pituitary and Hypothalamic inadequacy
  • Polycystic ovarian disease
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Malnutrition, childhood illness, anorexia nervosa, and vigorous exercise

However, most times it is usually idiopathic or familial (60%).

Our health practitioner at Morkare Natural Clinic can check if her nutritional status is normal- maybe the delayed puberty is caused by undernourishment. If it is not normal, correcting the diet should resolve the problem.

Besides, her nutritional status, a doctor can do a routine check-up and conversation with her to rule out some common congenital disorders which could be the cause of the delayed puberty.

If everything looks normal, then sonography of the pelvis and some hormonal tests must be undertaken to trace the root of the problem. Hormonal deficiencies will be treated with the appropriate hormones but under strict medical supervision.

But after all the tests and examinations, if everything is found to be normal, or there is a thyroid disorder or deficiency of female hormones, homeopathic medicine for delayed puberty can help a great deal.

Homeopathic medicine for delayed puberty

Many homeopathic remedies/supplements are effective in dealing with delayed puberty. However, note that these homeopathic medicines are simply complementary to conventional medicine.

A 17-year-old girl was brought to me and her mother complained that she hasn’t started menstruating at that age. After asking some vital questions, I found that she has no past history of any major illness. There was no history of congenital or hormonal disorder in the family either.

Besides, she hasn’t been taken to any doctor before and she hasn’t used any form of medication for the same.

So I made some physical examination and saw that there was no hair over her genitals and no development of breast. But she appeared normal both physically and mentally. She is doing well in her academic performance and teachers felt no need to show concern.

Ideally, I would have loved to let her go for investigations like hormonal studies and sonography to rule out any major disorder. But the family wasn’t too keen to do more investigation.

So I only let her take ultrasound of the pelvis and it came out normal. That’s when I decided to start homeopathic treatment on the condition that if there was no positive result after 4 months, then it would be compulsory to do hormonal studies. She came for a follow up once every week.

In the middle of the third month of homeopathic remedies, we began to see slight developments of the breast, and tiny hairs started to show up around her pubic region.

At the end of 5 months, her breast was more pronounced and the hair growth became very much visible.

By the second week of the 7th month, she noticed some discharge looking like mucus coming out through her vagina. This discharge went on for 3 months, and at the end of 1 year, she saw her first menstruation.

Her cycle wasn’t regular for the initial few months of her cycle, but after 1 ½ year of homeopathic remedies, the flow became normal and there was no need for any more medication. I discontinued the treatment.

Some commonly used homeopathic remedies for delayed puberty include:

  • Natrum Mur
  • Calcarea Carb
  • Ignatia
  • Pulsatilla
  • Graphites
  • Baryta Carb, etc.
